LAX Runway 6R-24L Runway Safety Area (RSA) Improvement, Los Angeles, CA
Project Duration: 2015-2017
Agency: Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)
Morgner Role: Quality Assurance/Quality Control Management
Project Description:
This project included improvements to both ends of Runway 6R-24L, including an easterly shift of the runway and reconfigured taxiways to meet FAA RSA requirements.
The Runway 6R-24L RSA project also required the relocation of a security post and taxicab holding/staging area. We prepared a quality control manual in accordance with FAA guidelines for implementation of the civil and electrical scope of work for the runway area. The manual included a master test register, test frequencies, specification guidelines, procedures, work instructions, and checklists for the inspection of the work. Quality control points were established for the project at known permitted inspections and signoffs in accordance with the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Check points were also established for significant quantities and milestones that the project could be evaluated at, such as a large filling operation or a panel formed retaining wall.
